How Does the GBC Photonics SRD Optical Module Programmer Work?

Smart Recode Device (SRD) from GBC Photonics is a device designed to reconfigure optical modules so they work with most network devices available on the market.
How Does the GBC Photonics SRD Optical Module Programmer Work?
GBC Photonics SRD allows you to code optical modules SFP/SFP+/XFP/QSFP+/QSFP28/CFP/CFP2/CFP4 by modifying their memory according to the relevant MSA standards. It also allows you to change the wavelength/channel number of tunable DWDM modules.

Coding Optical Modules with GBC Photonics SRD.
- lower inventory costs: easy configuration of modules by the user or installer reduces hardware stock. A single module type can be programmed for use in devices of different brands only at the moment of installation. There's no need to stockpile the same module type for multiple device brands running in the user's infrastructure.
- easier network modernization: SRD makes network upgrades easier. If you decide to replace all the switches in your network with those from a different vendor, you can simply use SRD to reconfigure your existing modules, without needing to buy new ones.
- remote technical support: diagnosing a problem, providing a new coding, or testing in the user's environment can all be done without shipping modules back and forth to a service center, which significantly reduces the time and cost of such activities.
- real-time updates: SRD is connected to the vendor's cloud infrastructure. This means you don't have to worry about new device and interface versions appearing on the market every few months. SRD is updated in real time.
- access to data from your phone: using the SRD Go app, you can quickly check the technical data of your GBC Photonics module. Once coded in SRD, all technical data will be available online and continuously updated. You can then access it at any time with a single click.
GBC Photonics Universal 100G Single Rate and Dual Rate Modules.
Universal 100G single rate and dual rate modules can also be programmed to work with network hardware from different brands using the SRD optical module programmer. Additionally, for dual rate modules, using SRD makes it very easy — with a single click — to set the module's default operating mode to Ethernet or OTU4, in case they need to be used in devices supporting only one of these standards. This makes these types of modules even more universal and useful.
