GBC Photonics Optical Modules
Optical modules (i.e. modules, inserts, transceivers) are an essential part of the network infrastructure. They change the electrical signal to optical and optical to electrical.
Optical modules are the core business of Salumanus. Over the past few years, we have supplied more than 1000,000 optical modules, including SFP+/XFP tunable modules, QSFP/QSFP28/QSFP-DD, CFP, CFP2 modules, and coherent modules.
We have created our own brand GBC Photonics, so we are responsible for the quality of the product from the design stage to the work in the network device. We can also modify the functionalities to respond to the needs of customers. We test and develop the modules in our own fiber optic laboratory.
Optical inserts manufactured by GBC Photonics are compatible with all network devices of major vendors and comply with current market standards. We offer transceivers for all interfaces on the market: SFP/SFP+, QSFP/QSFP28/QSFP-DD, XFP and CFP/CFP2/CFP4.

Universal optical module - solution idea
The Smart Recode Device (SRD) from GBC Photonics is a professional device designed to reconfigure optical modules to work with most network devices on the market. Basically, the device becomes a universal optical transceiver.
- In a small body, a great spirit
The GBC Photonics universal optical module was created to facilitate the work of network designers, engineers and warehousemen. It is a module that intelligently adapts to the needs of network administrators. It allows you to perform services at different speeds, adapt to existing fiber infrastructure, and is compatible with most manufacturers' network devices
The number of possible uses of the module is huge due to the fact that in different modes it can work at different speeds and transmission protocols.
The universal optical module GBC Photonics is used, among others, in:
- in 10G and 25G Ethernet DWDM networks
- in the fronthaul area of mobile networks, including 5G (thanks to CPRI/eCPRI protocol support and extended operating temperature range)
- in network devices that allow channel tuning (as a tunable module)
- in DWDM systems as an auto-tunable module that self-tunes to the free channel on the multiplexer
The universal optical module can be reprogrammed many times with the help of the GBC Photonics SRD device. This avoids further investments when you need to change the compatibility of the insert.
Less frequent replacement of optical modules means less e-waste. The universal optical module thus facilitates purchasing processes and allows you to reduce warehouse stocks. This is a tangible benefit for businesses and the environment.

What universal optical modules can you find with us?
Modules with different transmission speeds:
- 1G modules (e.g. SFP):
Compact transmission modules for speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second, ideal for small network applications or for local connections.
- 10G modules (e.g. SFP+):
Advanced optical modules offering data rates of up to 10 gigabits per second, used in larger networks and data centers.
- 25G modules (e.g. SFP28)
High-performance transmission modules that transmit data at 25 gigabits per second, ideal for applications requiring higher bandwidth.
- 40G modules (e.g. QSFP+)
High-bandwidth modules, providing data transmission at speeds of up to 40 gigabits per second, used in advanced networks and data centers.
- 100G modules (e.g. QSFP28, CFP)
Ultra-fast transmission modules capable of transferring data at speeds of up to 100 gigabits per second, used in large and demanding networks.
- 400G modules (e.g. QSFP-DD, OSFP)
State-of-the-art optical modules offering unprecedented data rates of up to 400 gigabits per second, designed for the most advanced network applications.
GBC Photonics Coherent Modules
Coherent modulation is, in simple terms, the process of changing several signal parameters. To encode the transmitted information, we use amplitude modulation of the carrier signal and its frequency and phase.
The DSP (Digital Signal Processor) signal processor on the transmitter side encodes the signal “on the fly” and creates so-called constellations. These are raster arrays of changing points, the layouts of which correspond to specific sets of bits. The DSP on the receiving side decodes these images, processing them into a stream of transmitted digital data.
Advantages of coherent modulation:
- extremely high sensitivity, impossible to achieve with simpler types of modulation
- decoding bits of information from single photons
The latest generation of GBC Photonics QSFP-DD 400G optical modules has brought well-standardized and unified coherent solutions. Compliant with OIF 400ZR and MSA OpenZR+ standards. In the Salumanus laboratory, we have successfully tested connections with modules from three different manufacturers.
DWDM modules for coherent transmission with QSFP-DD interface allow data transfer over long distances without the need for transponders. The “color” module can be planted in the port of the network device and connected directly to the multiplexer. Thus, the line between transport and access systems, which has so far been very clear, is blurring.
What coherent modules can you find with us?
- MSA Open ZR+ (modules for long distance links)
MSA Open ZR+ modules are advanced solutions for long-distance optical transmission. They are designed to handle very long distance links, offering high bandwidth and reliability. These modules are ideal for telecom network operators and ISPs who need to efficiently connect data centers and other critical network points over long distances.
- High bandwidth modules (100G, 200G, 400G)
These optical transceiver modules are designed to handle very high data rates. 100G, 200G and 400G modules are key in areas where maximum bandwidth is required, such as data centers, backbone networks or advanced telecommunications applications. They allow for the efficient and fast transmission of large amounts of data, which is essential in today's demanding network environments.
- Modulations of module operation (QPSK, 8QAM, 16QAM
QPSK, 8QAM and 16QAM modulations are different signal modulation techniques used in optical transceiver modules. QPSK (Quadrature Phase-Shift Keying) is used in applications requiring efficient transmission while maintaining good signal quality. 8QAM and 16QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) allow more data to be transmitted in the same band, which is crucial in high bandwidth applications.
- Modules 0 dBm (Bright)
The 0 dBm modules, also known as “Bright” modules, are characterized by high output power. The module is designed to work at very long distances up to 600 km. The OPEN ZR+ standard speaks of the support of four operating modes, while in real implementations there are more of them. Module to realize 400G/300G/200G/100G bitrates. The transmitter power is 0dBm which means that we are able to connect it directly to existing DWDM networks that were installed years ago.
- OIF 400ZR (modules for DCI metro networks)
The OIF 400ZR modules are specifically designed for use in Metro Data Center Interconnect (DCI) networks. They offer 400G high bandwidth, which is crucial for efficient communication and data exchange between data centers. These are modules optimized for short distances typical of urban networks, ensuring high performance and reliability in metro environments.
