GBC Photonics S100 - A New Platform for Building DWDM Systems

Network engineers know one thing: when something goes wrong with optical transmission, diagnosing it can take a while. IP-layer monitoring works great. You can check interfaces, errors, traffic statistics. But if the problem lies deeper — in the DWDM, at the level of light itself — that's where the trouble starts.

That's exactly why GBC Photonics S100 was created — a DWDM platform that gives you real visibility into what's happening in the optical layer. With it, you no longer have to guess, speculate, or test blindly. All optical parameters are at hand, accessible remotely through a browser. Signal power, wavelength, OSNR — everything you need to know, not guess.

And most importantly — you can monitor it in real time. With the OCM (Optical Channel Monitor) card, you can check the state of DWDM channels without needing physical access to the devices. It also works remotely — through an intuitive WEB GUI interface or an SNMP system. This way you have full control over the network, wherever you are. All you need is a browser and system access.

But S100 isn't just about monitoring. It's also about reliability that makes a difference in critical situations. The OLP (Optical Line Protection) module lets you create an automatic backup route that, in the event of a main link failure, takes over all traffic in under 50 ms. No restarts, no manual switching, no chaos. It just works.

The platform was built with the engineer's day-to-day work in mind. It's modular, so you don't have to buy more than you need. The 1U and 2U chassis offer from 3 to 7 card slots — you choose only what your network actually needs. And if the situation changes, you just add new modules. No need to replace the entire platform.

On board you'll find, among other things, 10G, 25G, 100G, and up to 400G transponders that support various protocols: Ethernet, Fibre Channel, CPRI, OTU, and InfiniBand. Each channel can be configured independently, giving you great flexibility — especially during migrations and integrations of different technologies.

Thanks to EDFA amplifiers — Booster, Pre-Amp, and In-Line — you can also comfortably cover long transmission distances. And integrated management systems help you keep everything in order even in a very complex topology.

To sum up — GBC Photonics S100 is more than just DWDM hardware. It's a platform that lets you design your network on your own terms. With full visibility, with flexibility, with fault tolerance. And with the understanding that a network doesn't stand still — it grows. And you need to grow along with it, not chase after it.
